Brake Efficiency Formula

The formula to calculate brake efficiency is:

\[ E_{brake} = \frac{VW}{BE} \times 100 \]

Where:

  • Ebrake is the Brake Efficiency (%)
  • VW is the total vehicle weight (lbf)
  • BE is the brake effort (lbf)

How to Calculate Brake Efficiency?

To calculate brake efficiency:

  1. Divide the total vehicle weight by the brake effort.
  2. Multiply the result by 100 to get the efficiency percentage.

Example Calculation

If a vehicle has a total weight of 4000 lbf and a brake effort of 800 lbf, the brake efficiency is:

\[ E_{brake} = \frac{4000}{800} \times 100 = 500\% \]

This example demonstrates the calculation, but in practice, ideal brake efficiency percentages are much lower.
